New Delhi: After the news of food retailers openly selling plastic rice at Uttarakhand market surfaced, now 'artificial eggs' made out of plastic was found in two schools in Orissa.

This could be termed as a case of food scandal, posing a serious health risks to consumers.

According to media reports, the State Food Commission on Friday has asked the Secretary of the Mass Education department inquire about allegations of supply of plastic eggs in two schools in Mayurbhanj district in Orissa. The Mass Education Department would have to submit the report by July 15.

The parents association has lodged an FIR in this connection at the Krushnachandrapur police station.

Senior officials of the Mass Education department had also initiated an inquiry following the report of the block education officer.

Here are some simple ways through which you can identify fake eggs:

  • The white and yolk of plastic eggs quickly mixes together after cracking it unlike the real ones.
  • They have slightly shinier, harder and rougher shells than the real ones.
  • Plastic eggs also have a rubbery linning inside the shells.
  • The real eggs smell like raw meat while the artificial ones doesn't smell at all.
  • Cracking a real egg lightly will generate a crisp sound when compared to a plastic egg.
  • And lastly, the fake eggs doesn't attract insects like ants and flies like the the real eggs does.
